Before I became an EMT I had never even heard of a colostomy bag. My first several shifts as an EMT trainee I had to deal with more colostomy bags than I could ever believe existed. 😢

I had sudden onset diarrhea, it leaked then fully detached all in about 30 seconds. Yeah its worse than you can imagine. And unfortunately it happened at a kids birthday party in a crowded chuck-e-cheese. 😂

My mom had a colostomy bag for most of my life. Maybe I got used to it but never understood why people complain about the smell. Or my mom just kept very good care of it, not many people knew she had one until it started talking 😂

And yeah, she’d fart, let it brew in there for a while, and stealth stink bomb us. Gotta see the silver lining 🤣

I’m a medical secretary in a neurosurgery practice. Took a phone message just yesterday from a home health nurse caring for one of our patients at their home post surgery. The patient ended up with bowel ischemia and a colostomy bag was placed. Well the patient’s stoma wasn’t doing good and the bag wouldn’t stay on and he was going through 5-6 bags a day. Idk nothing about stomas or bags but I sent that message high priority to the surgeon cause that home health nurse sounded like she was about to quit life😢
