“Sweet Georgia Brown” is a jazz standard written in 1925 by Ben Bernie, Maceo Pinkard and Kenneth Casey. This stunning version appears on Anita O’Days 1956 studio album “Pick Yourself Up With Anita O’Day”. She also performed the song live in the film “Jazz On A Summer’s Day”. She was vocally at the height of her creativity and her drug use had not yet affected her voice.

O'Day was completely different from any other female band singers of her day upon first glance because she refused to wear an evening gown and opted to wear a skirt and band jacket instead. For a singer without a great range, she has the most incredible artistry, a wonderful gravel like tone and an uncanny natural ability to scat sing. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
