In this video, I go over how to buy Series I Bonds - from what they are, the pros and cons, and how you can invest. With inflation at over 8%, it's hard to find ways that will guarantee that your money will be able to sustain its value. However, with I Bonds, you're actually guaranteed an interest rate between 7-10% which is what makes them a great option to consider during times of economic hardship.

Be sure to watch all the way through til the end as I'll be going over the step by step process on how to get I Bonds directly from the official TreasuryDirect website. I hope this video was helpful, as my goal is to give you guys a better understanding of all the important things you should know about I Bonds before investing. None of this is financial advice, it's merely a suggestion to do more research before putting your money into anything.

There is a limit of 10k maximum so the 9.6% Apr amounts to about 900 bucks a year.

I'm watching this video again. Funny thing about I Bonds is you have to pay federal income taxes on it as regular income. You loan the government money, it gives you a little interest, but then it taxes you to get some of the interest it gave you back. So, for example, this year's composite rate is 4.28 percent, after taxes, it's only 3.34 percent or lower depending on your tax bracket. 🤣

Bonds are terrible in Canada as the interest earned on bonds are taxed at the marginal rate or regular income rate, which is the highest. It is so cool that you get this tax benefit in the USA with I bonds.

Great video Charlie! I-Bonds are a great investment right now. I just wish I had the extra income to invest in them haha. However, I am still happy with dollar-cost averaging into the market with my company's 401k and my Roth IRA as well. No matter how you get in the market, it's important to just do it! I would definitely recommend investing in these bonds if you can afford to though.

Thank you for the video. It is very helpful, detailed, and descriptive, for dummies like me. The only question, how to collect my semi-annual interest, by keeping the i-bonds . I was told that i can't enjoy the interest money until i redeem the bonds. Is it right?

Thank you for sharing this valuable information. You mentioned you can buy 10K of I bond per year electronically. Does that mean calendar year? So if I buy one now (Oct 2022), can I do it again in January? Also, do you recommend to buy as an individual (can you add a beneficiary?) or via a trust, which is also in my name?

Would you recommend buying I bonds currently with the interest rates plateauing and with the possibility going down now?

I believe you can buy up to $10k per SSN or EIN, so that allows you to multiply your I bond investment well beyond $10K for a family or businessman.

On Robinhood and other apps, they have ETFs dedicated to bonds would you invest in bonds there or is it better to buy them straight from treasury direct or Vanguard for example?
