Traditionally, automation was introduced to improve a single task – not multiple steps required, for example, to complete an e-commerce order. There’s much more value in orchestrating and optimizing an entire workflow which requires the dynamic combination of people and robots. Having been part of the robotics industry for more than 10 years, Jim Lawton, VP-GM of Zebra Robotics Automation, believes that the solutions customers really need today involve much more than robots.
To get there, it's important to look for a partner who does more than address what the robot needs to do. Ask questions like:
• Do they really understand the challenge I’m facing from a holistic perspective?
• Are they bringing a component that I will have to bring together along with other components to create solutions, or they are actually creating a solution to my problem?
• What experiences do they bring from others in my industry, with similar problems that demonstrate how they’ve met those?
