Why you NEED a website in 2018

I think it's still necessary to have your own website where you can tell your story and share who you are on your own terms. At the end of the day, people who are looking to work with you want to know who you are, not just how your work looks like.

I think another big reason to have your own website has to do with the value of ownership. If 100% of your online presence/ portfolio exists on *other* platforms, then you're beholden to their success, their failures, their algorithms, their product changes, etc. You are in a constant state of reaction because you must play by their rules. If Instagram or Behance goes down or out of business, you could potentially lose everything. Having your own website gives you your own little piece of real estate on the internet and is 100% in your control so you are more protected (and more free) from the reliance of other platforms and their potential volatility.

And even a portfolio show how you are able to work with a brand identity. A good way to showcase your work, show your skills and yr personality.

I' not a designer but I agree with the idea that you can show more of who you are to companies with a website, I've just been procrastinating on it as a project!

Great video. Great content. Yes, as an artist and designer, i strongly agree that having a website prescence is beyond obvious. Yet, over 20 years in the making, i still find myself not really having one. Ii have toyed with them myself but never acheiving a site i was proud of owning. I know that not having money to spend on hiring a web site developer is an issue. But when i sit down to design me own sites, i find it quite boring. I dont know why. Hope this sparks a topic of reference for a video feedback. Thanks.

The reason I don't have a website is I don't have any money so I am using Behance and Instagram in the meantime. I have been teaching myself about HTML, CSS and a little Javascript. #studentlife

Working hard on my portfolio website and work for it. A website is really important in Denmark because many of the companies in Denmark are not looking at social media. There arent really big danish social media accounts

I wonder why do you think that personality doesn't go through the IG?
In my opinion, it's the very first place to check the person out.
Eg: What life (sh)he has, what thoughts (sh)he shares, what process (sh)he follows, what values (sh)he has...etc.
Even case studies are possible to exhibit through this platform.
The point is: usually we take a while to prepare a case study and post them to the website once a year (or so), while in SM we literally can share status updates, challenges, thoughts - each day. It's live. It's up to date. It's the first place about you.
But that's just my opinion.
