Poor Kermit.

It ain’t easy being green…in Chernobyl.

I believe the fast "evolution" will mist likely to happen for creature that have fast reproduction rate, like ... frog, or rat.

Yes, increased selection pressure accelerates evolution

During the European Industrial Revolution there was a lot of black coal dust over everything which resulted in the rapid evolution of darker pigmented moths. Years later as the coal disappeared lighter pigmented moths re-emerged.

This could actually be a cool worldbuilding trick.

"This meadow may look like a good spot for a swim, but it's actually full of deadly radiation. You can tell because all the fish are black."

Its called the bottle neck effect. Something major happens that puts a strong selection pressure on a species and reduces them down to a few. Those few go on and reproduce until they get bacj up to stable pop levels

This video says that "researchers are realizing that after a nuclear disaster, animals don't always rapidly mutate, " but a correlation between the frogs with the darkest skin and areas that previously had the highest levels of radiation doesn't prove that "realization" – it only suggests that the nuclear disaster wasn't the cause of any mutations responsible for the darker-colored frogs (in fact, mutations caused by radiation are much more likely to cause cancer, deformities, and other harmful effects than they are to be beneficial). Also, the whole reason there were already some darker-colored frogs at the time of the Chernobyl event for natural selection to "select" in the first place was because of random, naturally occurring mutations in the genes of the frogs or their ancestors prior to the event – evolution and mutation go together hand in hand, including in this case.

Their croaking sound has changed too, if you pay attention you can hear the frog say blyat

People often forget that evolution means natural selection.

None of that is remotely surprising. That's exactly what evolutionary theory would lead me to expect

This is why it is essential for all species to have diversity to survive. You never know when you’re going to need to survive radiation, apparently.

In a Northern England industrial town one species of dark coloured moth was prevalent because of the soot stained background of the buildings and trees which provided camouflage. A decade later the area had been repurposed and the surroundings were light so light coloured moths became predominant. The moths which stood out against the background were eaten by predators like birds and bats.

It's all fun and games until a bloat fly spits bile at you.

The degree of evolutionary shift per generation is, mathematically, dependent on the magnitude of selective pressure, after all. This is also the principle behind the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Survival of the fittest; it's not how fast, strong or smart you are; it's your ability to adapt

What's interesting is that unless the new dark frogs are able to camouflage themselves well enough they will be more likely to be picked off, once the green gene re-emerges the overall color scheme will probably eventually over time switch back.

this is literally ‘survival of the fittest’ where darwin meant the best ‘fit’ for the environment. it’s been misinterpreted to mean survival of the strongest which is not what darwin meant at all.

this is why genetic diversity can be advantageous
