Greek Farmers Protest Planned Tax Reforms in Athens

Athens, Greece, 19 February, 2014. Thousands of Greek farmers marched through central Athens to protest planned increases in taxation on farming revenues.
Farmers who traveled from from across the country, gathered on Vathis Square at noon on Wednesday, outside the Ministry of Agriculture. During the large-scale rally they marched to the Parliament holding Greek flags and shouting slogans against the new tax regulations.
Some of them refused to leave the area of the Parliament by the end of the rally and started shouting abusive slogans against the government while hitting the railings, and also threatened that they would get into Parliament. Tension ended later when riot Police forces arrived and lined up in front of the Parliament House.
Manolis Glezos, the Greek left wing politician and writer, known worldwide for his participation in the World War II resistance was present and joined the rally.

Αγρότες από όλη τη χώρα μπλοκάρουν το κέντρο της Αθήνας.

Χιλιάδες αγρότες πλημμύρισαν το κέντρο της Αθήνας, σήμερα Τετάρτη, σε μια εξαιρετικά μεγάλη αγροτική κινητοποίηση.
H συγκέντρωση διαμαρτυρίας των αγροτών από όλη την Ελλάδα ολοκληρώθηκε με πορεία όπου κυριάρχησε το πανό με το σύνθημα "Υποτελείς των Βρυξελλών -- Φονιάδες αγροτών" και ολοκληρώθηκε έξω από τη Βουλή.
Το "παρών" στη διαδήλωση έδωσε και ο πολιτικός της Αριστεράς, συγγραφέας και ήρωας της Εθνικής Αντίστασης, Μανώλης Γλέζος.
Μικρή ένταση σημειώθηκε όταν ομάδα αγροτών, και ενώ είχε αποχωρήσει ο κύριος όγκος των συγκεντρωμένων, φωνάζοντας συνθήματα εναντίον της κυβέρνησης, επιχείρησε να ρίξει τα κιγκλιδώματα έξω από τη Βουλή, και απωθήθηκε από τα ΜΑΤ.
