What do you think is the best bike lock? Don't forget to like the video for Thuong's awesome white camo pants 😁😉

Gotta love Japan haha. Looks like none of those other bikes are locked, that’s just amazing.

Sadly I don't trust humanity enough - even with a bike lock - to leave my bike anywhere unattended. Thanks for uplaoding :)

A key point with all locks is to make sure its difficult for a thief to get easy access with a tool. 'Fill the frame', as a bike mechanic once told me. The important thing of course is that no lock will stop a determined thief, but most thieves are opportunist and don't have tools with them. So even the simplest lock can work so long as you are sensible about where you leave your bike.

I got Abus Bordo Granit X-plus folding lock. Max security, flexible, compact, conveniently sits on down tube. But heavy.

Do you even need a lock in Japan? I don’t live there like you, but I have visited many times and it seems like the safest place on earth! I currently live in NYC and have had many bikes stolen. I finally stopped buying expensive bikes. But even cheap ones they steal. Doesn’t matter what kind of lock you use, if a thief wants your bike, they’ll take it. Finally i came up with one of the best anti- theft devices. Actually my friend who is a psychologist suggested it. She told me to make a simple sign on an index card with the words “Please don’t steal my bike, I am handicapped. Thanks” she told me to write it like a child wrote it and to add a smiley face. So i did. My friend’s theory is that even thieves have some humanity. I laminated the card and taped it to my handlebars when i locked up my bike. That was 5 years ago, and I haven’t had a bike stolen since! The one day i forgot to tape it to my handlebars? Stolen. 😂 maybe not 100% guarantee, but It definitely works.

I was thinking of buying the foldable type of lock and now have a beter idea of its function. Thanks for the demonstration of this lock. Thuong, your

You can put one end of the cable loop through the other loop and just U-lock that end. That way you have a longer cable to secure both wheels without using an additional lock. I'd use a U lock when parking in public areas; recently got a lightweight foldable Abus for short stops or when locking within my work premise.

I have a little bigger folding lock. It came with an attachment so I could put it on a bottle cage mount. I love it. I have a couple expensive bikes so. For the most part I don’t let my bikes out of my sight for long.

Great informative video and cool pants! Very thorough and comprehensive. If only the States were as safe as Japan, but I digress. 🚲🔐🤗
Thương-Chan did a great job of explaining as well!

quick tip: If you are commuting to and from regular place (other than home) buy a big lock and _leave it at your destination_ .

You've never biked NY. They'd see 3 locks & think you're daring them. We lock up the rear wheel to the rack & titanium cable to lock front to back.

I used to have Onguard Pitbull u-lock but got tired of its weight. So after its keylock mechanism started to break down, I replaced it with Onguard Revolver combination lock. It's longer, more convenient, lighter. Can be used as a weapon. :) As for the rest of the bike, I replaced standard QRs with Pitlocks. So I don't need to carry the weight of several locks.
