Don't put food down your disposal or your plumber will love you. The issue isn't what the disposal can chew up the issue is what the drainline can handle. Scrape your plates into the trash and whatever doesn't come off easy can go down the disposal

I’m still shocked that these things exist. Living in Australia, my leftovers go in the bin (which keep getting smaller because the local council hates us). Where does the food even go? Does it follow the same water pipes?

The reason it doesn’t have blades like a blender is so it doesn’t throw food back up at you, blenders are meant to blend food up while pulverizing it

This is how new garbage disposals work, old ones were blenders, these are designed to break your fingers instead of blending them

I love how any American realizing garbage disposals are rare worldwide are as amazed as the countries without are shocked that something like this is legal.

Tbh collecting biological waste and using it for farming and burning is way better than clogging the waste water system and requiring stronger sewage cleaning facilities to clean out the junk.

I’m an Aussie and I’ve never really heard of a house here having a garbage disposal. If we have leftovers or food scraps we put it in the FOGO bin (a bin with a lime bin lid that you put food in to be taken and turned into compost for farmers)

yours might be a newer-ish one or a particular model. They use to have blades you could see them too.. they just were not exactly like the blender ones. the ones my family had were low profile blades you could feel them in there.. I remember being afraid of even sticking my hand down there at all to get something that fell in even though no one was around the switch but me simply because of the tiny blades that stuck up.
