My favorite thing about Metropolice are the voice lines. Especially the lines when they go into their positions before attacking Freeman. Because metrocops call themselves something like: Lucky Seven or Speedy Four. Example scenario is that metrocops come from a door and one says: "Lucky Seven, ready to attack!" Other says: "Speedy Four, in position!" I think the Combine Soldiers have this voice line thing too, where they call themselves like these. There's a video about this called "Metropolice Analysis" or something. Long comment, I know.

Honestly I think each CP design really captures the theming of each era of HL2. When I see the trench coat design I think of a late 90s dystopian like the matrix. The blue design looks like a more contemporary officer but the blue and orange makes it feel like science fiction. The retail design looks like an armored up british police officer, but with a touch of scifi added, just like how the Combine take human designs and integrate them with their technology.

I also really like the trench coat it makes the cp look a lot more evil but retail is good too (best design obviously)

It’s really interesting seeing how the Metro Cops changed over development. Some of the differences are pretty drastic like the trench coat (favorite design), while others are more subtle like the color changes. I think that they could have used the elite Metro Cops as something akin to swats, or some other kind of police special forces. Just keep them as normal humans, but with better equipment/training.

It would be weird to have them be armed with a normal baton instead of the stunstick. I think that narrative wise it would have made more sense for Gordon to carry it around throughout the game rather than the crowbar. I get that the crowbar is really iconic, and it would definitely be bizarre to not have it. It’s just more logical in terms of story to have Gordon get his hands on the stunstick instead of Barney handing him it, amd saying he left this is Black Mesa (funny thing is that actually contradicts the events of HL1 because the Gman confiscates your weapons at the end of the game, and let’s you keep the suit. I love Half Life to death, but continuity wise it’s a dumpster fire. Eli Vance and others were never mentioned in HL1, it’s unclear if you’re wearing a helmet or not, and we don’t see the Houndeyes or Bullsquids even though there were portal storms all over the planet and they should be part of the ecosystem by now. That’s not even getting into whether or not the expansions are canon. Despite these flaws I still love the series, and I’m really glad they retconned those characters into existing. It’s similar to how I’m glad that Bungie turned Johnson into a main character even after it’s HEAVILY implied that the Flood killed him. After the introductory that shows off the Flood you can see a blood splatter where he was originally standing. One thing that’s really funny is since he wasn’t a character at the time and was just a marine present you can later see him when you go up the elevator. That’s when a retcon is good). If they were to give that to the player for the alt fire you could shock enemies which would stun them/do lingering damage. To balance this out certain enemies would require more hits, and it would use a small percentage of your suit’s battery with every swing. That would be a really cool weapon.

Great video! You should do one of the Synths next.

Even though these are some of the weakest enemies, I really like how they look and the tactics they use.

Also really nice video! The cinematics were on point for this one.

I like to think that these designs actually existed, but over the years the Combine thought of better suit designs and weapons to give to the Civil Protection and Overwatch Soilders.

Another great video!
I love trench coat cops the most, although Valve really shouldn't have cut the elite metro cops. HL 2 really suffers from lack of enemy variety.
Thankfully DI and RTBR have them.

For me the final retail version is strangely the best, I find the blueish one strange like it's a supermarket guard lol ! I also like the footstep sound they make when running, good video as always thanks Radiation Hazard !

The Civil Protection are my favorite enemies in HL2, just a regular police force who got fucked by a huge uprising.

Curiously the console commands for changing the health or “kick“ damage for the combine elite soldier are:
“sk_combine_guard_health”
“sk_combine_guard_kick_dmg”

I wish the Elite Metro Police (EMP) Was still used

Edit: Their are other names

on the Metrocop elite.
my guess is that would be the squad leader model.
Iike in was it HL1 that had the marine squad leader have a diffrent model?

I figure that the elite Metrocop was scrapped because it was redundant from a lore perspective. An "elite" Metrocop becomes a combine soldier.

I always loved the old Soviet ShMB gas masks that they wore in HL2

fun (possible) fact: although not seen in game, CP can possibly rebel as they are human, although they’d have to wear their mask and clothes (except the front white part)

I think most of the stuff from the beta still happened, we just never saw it in hl2, I still think cremators, that vertigo place, combine guards (both types, the metro police and that weird lookin one), combine female assassins, the gas mask citizens, all of that stuff, still exist, but in other cities and places that we never see

I'd guess the Elite Metrocop would have wielded the SMG and use its secondary fire, much like how the Combine Solders who use the AR2 don't use the secondary fire but the Elite Soldiers do.
