I have a newer batch of Layton and Carlisle. Both are as potent and amazing as they’ve always been. I’m fairly certain if they didn’t have the % on the bottle, …no one would notice a dang thing.

I have the old formulation 78% and new formulation 82%. Not only is the menthol note gone from the open in 82% it is crazy weak i can barely smell it. The 78% old formulation was a projection monster I would get compliments left and right but the new formulation is almost just a skin scent. I wish I knew this before buying the new bottle.

Friend of mine recently bought one of the new bottles with 82% and 7-digit batch code, and he said that he immediately noticed a drop in performance. We decided to experiment - he brought it to work, applied it to his wrist and sure enough, no more than 3 hours later I could barely smell it on him. He works in a different department so it's not like we are next to each other the whole day. The scent is still great, but that performance is not something I would ever spend that kind of money on.

I have the 82% bottle I never smelled the old batch. I love Layton

The first time I tried Layton about 2 years ago from a sample decant, it blew my mind. It lasted 14 hours and had this addictive and very appealing smell. Finally bought a bottle last month and it just doesn’t have the same effect on me. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the smell and it’s not new anymore. But I’m pretty convinced the formula has changed quite a bit. Mine smells more floral, fresh clothing kind of smell on the opening. The one I tried years ago had this rich apple vanilla kind of smell that was addictive. I know it’s not fake because I bought it from selfridges but it’s so disappointing.

This is great to know! I am just looking into getting PDM Layton as my first fragrance and I was worried it wouldn't be as nice as the older formulation that I had heard so much about, but I am relieved that it is not so different😅

Great video, absolutely on point. Its true that EU banned Lilial which led manufacturers rework their fragrances. In modern perfumery, especially at big companies like Firmenich, there are alternative ingredients ready so no need to panic 🙃

Have the 82% and it sucks. 78% had this freshness and airyness to it that this one doesn't have. 82% is flat and it doesn't push off my skin and doesn't last. I'm disappointed

You should do a similar video comparing older and newer batches of Percival. A lot of people have different opinions on performance on that one.

The new formulation does not last as long and it smells different. Parfums de Marly fragrances are ALWAYS getting reformulated and become much weaker than their ORIGINAL releases. Parfums de Marly HAS NOT been transparent when it comes to the reformulation of their fragrances. Carlisle, Herod & Oajan have also been reformulated and have 3%-4% more alcohol in newer batches.

I just bought Layton and it sad to say that I’m disappointed it does not last on my skin or on my cloths at all. I sprayed it six times on my skin and after 4 hours I don’t smell anything. I love the smell though.

Great review, good to know. I have the old batch I bought about a year or so ago. It smells great!

I have both but I rather go for the new reformulation over the old. When I got 2016 it has a minty smell in the opening. The vanilla smell was real thick and heavy. Good for the cold weather for me. The new batch is more versatile and can use on any occasion. The performance is good.

I have a 2015 bottle that was running low so I found a tester (new in box) from 2019. I purchased it less than a month ago. Both are 78% alcohol but they smell different. The 2015 lost some of its top notes while the 2019 is how I remembered the 2015 when new. It’s splitting hairs though. I have a few frags that have changed over time. People always complain about reformulations but in my experience, many fragrances get richer and lose a little something off the top when they’re sitting on you shelf for years. I have a couple that the alcohol must have evaporated and are now straight oil. I can’t comment on the 82% batches but I suspect if you’ve never smelled the original, you’ll still be happy. One more thing, Al Haramain Detour Noir is close that I can hardly tell the difference between this and Layton.

I have my old 2019 bottle and my new 2022 bottle and they are pretty much the same thing. I think some people get too worked up about the smallest differences. Like the guy said, only thing that lacks in the new one is menthol note, other than that performance is great on both

I bought reformulated one (2021 batch). It was really weak not as rich as pre-reformulated decant i had and performance awful (last 4 hrs). I used 15-20 sprays and threw it back to my shelf. After almost 3 months, i decided to give it another try, i was very surprised that my layton really potent and perform much much better almost as good as decant i used to have. If you guys had problem with new batch lately i would suggest to let it sit for a while and try again. I would definitely leave my layton sit for one or two months hopefully it will get stronger.

I was wondering why my new bottle smelled a little different, I had 2 of the previous batch, when 1 ran out this year I ordered another bottle. Now I have 1 of the new and 1 of the old. I save the old batch for night action, and new bottle for daytime usage
