Every lifeboat should have a tablet playing this video on repeat

Ever since I saw Captain Philips I have been curios about what's the lifeboat like. Thanks for this small insight!

I'm more worried about who's in the life boat than what's in the lifeboat. A bunch of panicked people could waste through the supplies very quickly.

Great video. One addition: Make yourself familiar with the rescue signals, while you are in the liferaft and prior to use. Don't wait untill you see another vessle till you read the description, as time is of the essence.

My guess at what’s inside: a bunch of terrified cruise passengers

They test the ones on cargo ships regularly. It’s on my bucket list to ride in one… but only when they’re testing them out safely at port!

It feels much better to know what's inside the large orange lads we see on the side of our floating queens of today. Thanks for another fantastic video Casual Navigation, ADHD makes it hard to concentrate for a while straight but I've managed to sit through this without sidetracking once.

I like how you focus your channel on any sort of boat and ship related topics instead of mostly Titanic videos, not that it's a bad thing but it's still pretty nice to see

If anyone is interested, the cat's eye reflector is what's called a retro reflector. You've seen them on road signs and car tail lights. Three flat planes intersecting at eight angles like that will ALWAYS send any light that hits them back on a parallel path. You'll notice that naval buoys all have one on top. They're not shiny because they don't need to be, but because of those reflectors, those tiny buoys have huge radar signatures. They show up like lighthouses on radar screens even though they might be barely visible from the bridge of a ship.

A channel called Technology Connections has a good video about them if you're interested.

Part of my Marine Corps MOS was rescue off of carrier’s and this video offers good basic instructions for people to remember if they are in that situation. Believe me when I say hypothermia comes on quickly and being at sea in a lifeboat is still very precarious. I hope no one has to ever face this situation but if you do pay attention to the ship’s safety policy and know where the lifeboats are and how to deploy them. It’s just like airlines and knowing what to do in an emergency. Safe travels everyone.

That was interesting and I did not realize that life boats carried so much equipment for survival. Thanks for sharing this.

The cruise ship’s dirty little secret: if the ship has listed to one side, only half of the lifeboats are useable.

This should be part of the safety announcement on cruise ships.

I want to use a lifeboat as a personal vehicle so much upon looking at them, they're like surface submarines - they're so cool!
