Opel Kadett GSi Superboss - Drive of an Icon

Показать описание
I attend the annual Opel Kadett GSi Superboss Owners Group meet in Somerset-West and go for a drive with the iconic South African hot hatch on the spectacular Clarens Drive. The Opel Superboss was a uniquely South African development of the '80s Opel Kadett GSi and was a legend on the track. This makes it quite a compromised road car, as you'll find out!

Nice video Hannes. I actually daily my Supie and yes, it takes a lot of work especially when you dont have power steering or aircon but even with all of that, it does not beat the feeling of locking the car and looking back everytime.

I bought that t-shirt too, it is really nice quality, but it was quite pricey in total to get it shipped to Europe.

In the UK we had the Vauxhall Astra GTE. Great cars but really expensive and sort after now. I should have bought one years ago when the prices weren't too bad.

Love these headlights, the german ones don't have these stripes. Also the name is really badass😅

Also the steering, the biggest problem on these cars is the roll center is too low. I have modified my chassis to mount the control arms up slightly higher and it makes all the difference in the world. It makes the steering literally very direct and razor sharp, super responsive.

If you watch on my channel you can see I built COP ignition on to mine a while ago, which was a steep learning curve and I am now restoring the Kadett, but the spark plugs I am using, also with chipped group N ECU are NGK iridium, I can look up the code, and they last for about three years. the genuine Bosch copper plugs also lasted only a few days to a few weeks, depending on the cars mood I suppose....

I Almost traded my Monza GSI for a Super Boss but on the test drive a hated the shattering hard ride, It felt like riding on railway tracks.. Might have been a overinflated tyres But everything rattled inside the car.. Unfortunately 😢

Who ever build the engine is talking nonsense . I bought a new Superboss in 1990 and sold it with +/- 75000 km on clock without any mechanical problems, just normal service parts. As for driving characteristic, i won't compare a basically rebuild Superboss to a new one from the 90's.
