How To Record Unlimited Time on Sony Cameras - Disable 30 Minute Video Record Limit

In this sony alpha camera tutorial we unlock and disable the 30 minute record time limit. How to record unlimited time on Sony alpha cameras. This includes the Sony a6000, a6300, a7, a7ii, a7ii, A7R, A7S, A7R2, A7S2, A72, a5100, rx100v, rx100iii, rx100iv, with this sony hack all of the earlier sony cameras versions will be able to record over the 29:59 time limit. It uses the app Open Memories Tweak, which once installed will pop up in your sony menu.

Just in case anyone is wondering, this worked on my Sony A7sii with 3.0 firmware. Successfully recorded 1.5 hours, with video clips automatically broken up into 22 minute chunks. External power is recommended as Sony eats battery life. Extend the screen out from the camera to help minimize overheating.

Something to note: the micro-USB cable you use to connect your camera to your computer MUST have data transfer capabilities. At first, I connected my Sony a7sii to the laptop and it was giving me the "No device connected" error... Then I discovered I was using a "charge only" micro USB cable. :) Hope this helps!

HEADS UP: Worked for us on the Sony A6000 with one minor change. Had to change the camera to "mass storage" mode instead of MTP mode. We have firmware 3.20 on our A6000.

How to fix: Mac coming up with error message, not letting you open the downloaded file as "can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software."

All you need to do here, is instead of double clicking on the downloaded file like normal, in your Finder, go to Locations, open the pica-gui-v0, then DRAG the file over to your Applications.
Now open your list of applications and on the file, right click -> Open -> Open
You may run into the error message again after your first 'Open' But I found doing it this way, on the second attempt it will finally allow you to open the app.

Hope this helps people, as I was struggling for ages to figure out why it wasn't working for me. After this, the video steps are perfect and solved my problem! Thanks again. :)

​ ticaretifarika posted a workable solution for those of us that were having problems. I spend a long time trying to getting the tweak to even load. Kept getting errors like network connection. Took his suggestion. Downloaded "pmca-gui-v0 17-win.exe" Clicked on it in my download file and BINGO. Worked like a charm. Make sure you download the "exe" file. There is another one that looks like it but different extension. I was trying to download it to my second a7rii which is the same version number. I'm using one camera for video and the other for stills and a second video camera on occasion. This download worked and I didn't need to use a browser. Just click on the download and pick the tweak. My firmware is 4.0 on both cameras. Thanks Javier and ticaretifarika!!!!
