Both Dave and Carl (who ignored the rules altogether) thought they weren't supposed to laugh or smile, but the level has sound effects that cost points, too. The baby face counts as a smile, and the audience laughter sound counts as laughter.

I love that Dave thinks he can be serious. His normal way of dealing with stress is to smile and laugh AND also when he is enjoying things.
