I still have my '89 2.5 Merc today. With minimum hop ups like reeds and porting mounted on a late model 20 foot Nitro hull with a jackplate it easily goes 60 mph plus. Love the sounds and smells right after daybreak hearing it idle and rap off with a touch of the throttle. Good stuff.

In VA uncapped outboards are illegal, but uncapped offshore boats with a pair of supercharged 572s with 10" exhausts is fine.

When I was 21 and in the army i bought my firsr boat. It was a 19' nitro with a 200hp v6 2 stroke it ran 78nph on GPS! I used to hook up the hose to it in my drive way just to hear it and smell that good ol 2 stroke! My neighbors hated me mostly cause everything I owned was loud asf lol
