So much fun watching you pull the wood out. And then finding you did get some color. Beautiful. And the yellow so pretty.

When I lived in Southern Cali I found a chunk of obsidian larger than a bowling ball it was awesome.

I saw pieces of these awesome fossilized Petrified Wood logs/limbs filled with fantastic Opal in the early 1970's (app. 50 yrs. ago) in a rock, gem, mineral shop in State College, PA. These log pieces were in large rectangular aquariums filled with water to keep the opal from drying out, otherwise the opal could craze or crack or both.
I had never seen anything like this before, even in the Smithsonian Museum of Rocks, Minerals & Gems or Harved Univ.'s Natural History Museum of Minerals, Rocks & Gems in Cambridge, MA., where I have visited over many years since 1957.

That’s awesome. I love opal. Some of the opals in their shop could rival Australian black opal. Very cool

That's friggin cool. Something to note is the orange/amber /reddish is" fire Opal" . The rainbow colors in Opal is called " play of color" . That is called " precious Opal". So with the rainbow colors you have precious Opal, precious fire Opal and precious black opal. There is also " matrix opal" where the colors are spread through a host rock instead of being clustered together in bigger chunks . In Australian opal, boulder Opal is a matrix opal as is fairy opal.

The play of colour in the shop pieces you showed and then at 6:27 it's difficult to overlook how similar to Ethiopian opal Royal Peacock Mine's stuff actually is. It has that prismatic quality that, as much as I like some Aussie opal, appears a lot more holographic. Is there anything as beautiful as opal?

Should come to Australia and check out the opal mining areas, maybe there's some open to public? i'm not sure. I do know you need some licenses to fossick or mine but they're not expensive. Heaps of other gem places through Queensland too, though it's a very large state so prepare to do a lot of traveling, lol.
