Powerful Bomb Cyclone To Slam West Coast

Показать описание
A powerful bomb cyclone associated with a major atmospheric river is forecast to drench the West Coast, from Washington to California, midweek, potentially leading to flooding.

The term "bomb cyclone" comes from the meteorological term "bombogenesis" or "explosive cyclogenesis." This happens when a storm system's central pressure drops at least 24 millibars within 24 hours.

I'm 62 years old and have never heard of a "bomb cyclone", really stretching these days.

I sure hope this bomb cyclone doesn't turn into a Sharknado.

Does a bomb cyclone come with laser rain and missile snow? I hear stealth fog is in there, too! 😂😂😂

Not so long ago, they just called it a storm. Now it's a bomb cyclone. Hopefully, it won't turn into an ultra, mega, turbo bomb cyclone. I hate when that happens.

To push back on a little too much hype, some forecasts say yeah there's going to rain but this whole bomb cyclone thing is overblown.

Speaking of Sea-Tac... I was at Sea-Tac Airport on the morning of the "Inaugural Day Storm" 1993. My friend was flying in, and he said after they finally landed that the plane was a-rocking and a-rolling like mad! He said once they hit the tarmac he wanted to get out and kiss the ground. I didn't even realize the wind was picking up till I looked down at the ground and saw a metal ladder being blown along the tarmac! I wonder if this is going to be similar. The PNW is fond of big ol' windstorms. Worst one ever, I think, was the Columbus Day Storm of 1962. It was the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane and killed dozens of people from BC to CA.

Nothing happening here yet, I am around 10 miles outside of Portland. I am glad there are no strong winds, power outages in cold weather are not very fun

Wow, atmospheric river, bomb cyclone… dramatize much.

I’ve lived in Vancouver WA area for 51 years. The started calling it the Pinapple Express in the 90’s, and then when it hit California the started to call it an atmospheric River.

Most know of this a rainy day here in WA and Oregon… we don’t really have a winter, it’s pretty much rainy season for 5+ months a year. None of what the news is calling is just normal.. it floods every year and the skies get black and rain for days and weeks at a time.

I am glad to know this. I hope I have enough time to get ready. Seems like I am never ready for winter.
