Have you heard of WILLINGNESS? It can be a game-changer in treating anxiety. What’s one way you can implement it today?

In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

Thank you for not making this a fast video, just like most shorts. I like that you're still talking calmly in this. ❤❤❤

I'm beginning to learn how to prioritize things. I'm learning to accurately answer the question "How important is it?". I used to treat everything as important as everything else. So i would get as worked up about dog poo on the lawn as i did about abusive neighbors yelling. The other day I was able to see the dog situation took only a few minutes of my day. I was able to calm down within 15 minutes and enjoy the lovely sunny day. It used to eat at me for hours and days.
Btw it took a year for the abusers to be evicted, but now there is much more peace and quiet in our neighborhood.
The dogs are still loose in our complex sometimes, but I've done what I can.

What do you think about the "inside out" movies for teaching kids how to understand emotions?

It's usually not whether I am safe, it's usually when I don't know if my loved ones are safe.

I am in the midst of major life pivots and crisis. I notice the days I stay on the couch either laying or watching TV, I feel worse than days like today when I'm making lists and checking them off. I learned from you how in the past there was physical labor that had to be done to move through anxiety, so I have really grabbed on to that. Thank you for posting these videos!!!

Thank you Emma. I got to the point with my therapist that I wanted to go deeper in therapy and the same session my therapist terminated me 10mins before the end. It really hurt. I was showing willingness and noticed that I was avoiding too much, but it was too late.

So happy with these short, at some point my attention span can't stand the regular videos and it makes me more irritable and impatient.

I'm pretty comfortable confronting my emotional process but my partner isn't and unconsciously attempts to shame me whenever I'm feeling an emotion. Because he worships distraction. And he lives in chronic stress and procrastination. I would love to meet other people who are also comfortable with their emotional processing.

But willingness to sit with it doesn’t make it end. It just doesn’t. Getting my need for safety met would.

Nice video but line button doesn’t work for some reason…

But HOW do you sit with it? I know I'm safe now, laying in my bed. I'm an adult now and I know this anxiety stems from childhood. So...I know....but how do you stay with it?

Except when I allow myself to experience emotions it sucks me down and I end up incapacitated

Ok, but what the f*** does "sitting with it" actually mean? I've had moments where I have no choice but to "sit with" my anxiety, such as when I'm waiting for the thing I'm anxious about to start. It just makes me exhausted, which only makes it harder for me to work through the thing I'm anxious about.

But I feel that there are certain thoughts perhaps even feelings I bear not get in touch with.
I’ll end up spiraling down to an absolute hell. Anyone else relates?
