Take the handle off and clean the mechanism inside with q-20 and a cloth wrapped around a screwdriver. You can also clean the mechanism on the handle itself. Works like a dream and my handles are original 1982 handles.

I serviced my latches and handles on original 89 model and tape on strikers. Opens like a dream. Closes like a new spec lol

Keep locks lubricated and buy a decent set of handles at goldwagen

I put the Polo handles from AutoStyle on my Mk1, never gave me any issues since...

Both my front door handles don’t work lol, but the rear ones do so I’ve removed the driver’s side handle.
