Eight years after the killing of Osama bin Laden, the State Department recently declared al-Qaeda to be as great a threat to the U.S. as it has ever been. At the same time, the administration has confirmed that Hamza bin Laden, a potential successor to his father, was killed in an airstrike, and recent intelligence suggests that al-Qaeda’s current leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, may have serious health complications.
