The Best & Strongest Duct Tape Tested

Testing major duct tape brands including 3M, T-Rex, Gorilla, Duck Tape and Flex Tape. Testing both adhesion and strength to see who makes the best overall as well as strongest tape. Doesn’t matter if the tape is for covering warts or holding something together you always want to get your moneys worth.

I've been living in old RV trailers so use duct tape to hold reflective barrier insulation over windows, walls and ceilings after stapling the sections in place. The Duck brand holds for 3 years before its adhesive dries out to lose its grip. Had to use nylon tarps to cover the trailer roofs so used Gorilla tape to hold the tarps together where weathering created splits. It held up better than the tarps.

Some feedback. The angle of the flat bar in the U bolt is different for every tape you tested. This can potentially change the amount of force needed to tear each tape. You want consistency and repeatable test to more accurately test the tear strength.

If you want the tape to last, get Gorilla. T rex seems equivalent for the first week or so, but it’ll lose its grip and start to peel after a couple of months. Gorilla can stay stuck for years. It is functionally permanent.

Why would flex tape come in last when it clearly was the winner in the second test?! That's crazy!

I think for most applications the gorilla tape is your best bet but when it comes to water id probably use the flex tape

Flex Tape having an adhesion strength so strong and it also being very similar to its tear strength puts it at number 1 in my book. if tear strength is very high but adhesion very low (relatively), then there's no real use to have such a high tear strength if the adhesion is weak anyways. Flex Tape having similar numbers in both adhesion and tear strength is an absolute win when that adhesion number is more than 3x higher than the second best tape.

Best repair tape for tarps . Not these types of tape I'm talking about but It is T Rex super sticky rubbber waterproof tape it cost $11 for a roll of 4“ x 5‘. It’s more expensive, but it’s the best thing for tarps . Old duct tape. Can come off become brittle with time this thing I put it on one and a half years ago
And it’s still good
