Alone on Ama Dablam 6812m

2014 - My first time visiting the Himalayas.

At the time I was really driven to become the youngest to solo Ama Dablam 6812m and set a new record.
looking back at it now I'm surprised that this was a huge motivation for me but I also came to the realization that these things change.

Nowadays I'm driven by my curiosity - to learn what awaits me up somewhere where nobody has ever been and to get to know what I'm capable of as an Alpinist, as a human being.

I filmed everything with a single Gopro back then.

I just returned last week from Summiting Ama Dablam. I used fixed rope everywhere above camp I. Toughest feat of my entire life. I could not even begin to imagine taking it on without the aid of fixed rope. Extremely impressive. Congratulations mate.

That looked like some insanely bad conditions for soloing without a rope. The snow was so soft in places I literally held my breath for you. To be honest, I think you're nutso.

Jost, not a lot of people realize what a feat this is. I am wondering how you are not covered more around the alpinist mountaineering community. I hope you get more appreciation sooner than later for your incredible work!

Probably one of the best 360 degrees ever! I so enjoyed your ascent, ... your magic climb to the summit. Thanks you so much for sharing this divine moment!

Strength and perseverance young Titan! And please remember, there will always be another day, another summit if the voice within -- the quiet, clear one you know so well -- is allowed to serve as your guide. Do not over-think. In Sanskrit it is said: Tat Tvam Asi -- "You Are That". Trust. And climb a lifetime!

Solo climbing is the real deal. No one else to rely on. The most gratifying achievement you will ever experiance.

Excellent ... well done. After Everest in 1953 Edmund Hilary looked at Ama Dablam and declared it unclimbable. He later return and climb it. Congrats on great style and a remarkably good video for self filming.

the awesomeness of this feat is one thing, I got to learn how 2:50 is done - initial thought, "this guy brings a drone too?", but the best is he takes the time to answer questions. I will never climb in person just virtually with amazing people like Jost. Thank you.

Very impressive! Great video too!

Protip though: Don't pour boiling water into a flimsy bag while holding it. Put that biz on the ground to fill up. If you miss or the bag folds, you're now on a ledge at 5000m with a burnt hand...

Hi Jost just wanted to say I love this video. You got me into mountain climbing... doing my first climb of the Großglockner (Austria) this year. You are truly an inspiration... wish you good luck for your next adventures. And ignore the haters, they are just envious
