Addition and Subtraction of Small Numbers

Alright, so we've decided to learn all of the maths, but where shall we start? Well, let's start at the beginning. The first kind of math we developed was simple arithmetic. We needed this at the dawn of civilization to communicate very simple ideas. Most of us can add small numbers together easily, but is there any more we can say about these operations? Let's find out!

I'm 26 turning 27 years and this is the start of my journey to becoming a chemical engineer.
Going back to the basics and work my way up.
Never to late to start👊

I know this is 'easy' stuff. BUT this is why I believe I need this.
I was belted and shouted at so many times in all the years of maths (at school) for asking for things like where did maths come from, fairly basic questions for kids you'd think
It actually makes recalling how to add and other basics really hard under pressure (like when there are fractions or any conflicts in the room!) because of the many teachers who had nothing to give because they in turn had also been badly taught.
It's resources like this video where maybe there is a chance that I too am allowed to know some of the mysteries of the universe that educators of several generations in the last century made sure to deny access to.

I'm so so weak in mathematics. But I want to get a good job and most interviews want you to do a math test, and they're not always easy for me. Thanks for making these videos.

This series is much appreciated, you put in that perspective and rhetoric most teachers assume un-necessary. I'm starting rather fresh having forgotten most everything post elementary school due to injury; I'm starting right here at the beginning for completeness sake. Hard to know what you've forgotten until its sat in front of you equal parts familiar & new.

So I failed every math class growing up, and in my 30s I decided to take it up and, wow even here I learned something new. Thanks Dave!

Even this video on the simplest of math concepts is filled with brilliant perspective and insight. I never applied myself in school ages ago, but I have recently taken an amateur interest in physics. Rather than make any assumptions about how well my memory is working, I figured I'd start at square one. This series is exactly what I hoped to find. Thanks!

You might think that because this is Kindergarten math it might not be interesting, but when you learn it in Kindergarten they don't explain the "why" to ANYTHING because you're a stupid, wild child who needs to be bribed with gummy candy to sit still and do your homework. Explanations go over your head.

By the time you're old enough to comprehend any you're already out of school and so unless you refresh yourself it remains unexplained.

All of this means that, even though I know what 2+2 is, this is still blowing my mind. Explaining what equation means, WHY something subtracted by another is what it is, instead of just saying THAT it is, all of that and more is completely glossed over when you first learn it. Learning it for a second time here is, again, blowing my mind.

I really want to thank you Dave, what you are doing is truly amazing. I started understanding math even though I disliked it all my childhood. Great job!

Thank you so much for explaining this from the beginning. It seems to be something that no ones wants to do or put into words.

My Plan? Learn all of mathematics, learn all of physics, build my own spaceship, fly around the Earth, have fun. Will it happen? Probably not, but time can only tell. Interstellar here I come.

This lesson was a bit to difficult maybe we should step it back a bit.
