My father was a minister and his view was different from most in his profession. He said, don't pray for patience, because the Bible says patience comes through great tribulation. Don't pray for wisdom, as it is best learned through failure. Don't pray for understanding, because that comes through learning and that's on you, not God.

I appreciate that you are not afraid to honestly speak your mind about religion and to challenge the a priori assumptions upon which it rests. Faith is a prostitute that will sleep in any bed. Having "faith" means that you 100% embrace whatever message you have bought in to, turned off your critical mind and openness to other ideas and challenges, and are blind to all else but your "vision" of "your truth" by way of "your faith". This is fear, intellectual cowardice, and embraced idiocy.

The Christian God is typically described as having 3 things: infinite power, infinite knowledge, infinite compassion. But there are things that will kill a person that, in no way, shape, or form, can be framed as a trial, a lesson, or a punishment. Newborns dying in agony of terrible diseases before they even learn to crawl is a prime example. Therefore you can only pick two of the three. If he has infinite power and infinite compassion but those things happen, then he must not have known they were happening, so no infinite knowledge. If he has infinite knowledge and infinite compassion but they still happen, then he must not have infinite power because he couldn't stop them. And if he has infinite power and infinite knowledge but they still happen, then he must not have infinite compassion, because he didn't care to stop them.

Choice. That’s what God gave us. One’s actions effect at least someone else which effects someone else and so on and so on. We are all affected.

Some religious people would have you believe that the universe was fine tuned for our existence . With a possibly infinite universe, rare things happen all the time we are just one of those rare things and our existence is finite . To believe otherwise is pretty arrogant .

My dad told me in the 1960s, if I wanted to know who or what God was or is, I needed to listen to scientists, who are trying to determine the answer to that, by learning what kind of knowledge, skills and abilities, would be needed, to make this world, and everything, and everyone. On it
And the universe we can see . And the universe we can not see yet . And do all of that, from nothing . If and when you or someone else can answer that question, you may know who or what God is or was .
