I'm glad our timeline has all 3 pickup types.

I just love the fizz you get from P90s.

P90 wins this competition. There may be other setups or riffs where one of the others would sound better. Still, nice comparison. I love this format, it's great for lessons too.

Surprisingly, the humbucker takes the gold for me.

Single coil most true to the original sound

I saw a different video that didn't end in all 3 at the same time and it was definitely missing something, this ones worth a sub, keep at it G

For this kind of guitar part, and considering the context of a band or mix, single coil is the way to go IMO

P 90s pretty killer, more feedback then a humbucker might be good, could be bad too,

I like all three. I have a single coil and a humbucker tele and a Les Paul Special with P90s. All great instruments! Nice video!

For this kind of thing, singles all the way. It just works.
Love that P90 crunch though.

A guitar with the P90 in the neck and Humbucker in the Bridge would be pretty sweet

Love this-thanks for making it! I’ve been thinking about P90 v. Humbucker for my next guitar (probably will be epiphone LP).

There's an SG Special for about 2000 (I think) that has a push/pull knob to change the active pickups from humbuckers to p-90s.

It's a tone that's so difficult to reproduce faithfully BECAUSE Kirk played a strat, Andrew (mostly) played a G&L ASAT, with Tim largely playing a huge mix of often 'Soviet' style (cheap vintage foreign) guitars that immigrants brought into Australia, as well as his more rocky guitars, he still favoured single coils for most live work at least.
It was the combination of all the different pickups in different positions that helped INXS have such a great, full guitar sound even though nothing of difficulty or body was ever played.
Simple lines with the tonal spectrum covered by three sparse guitars, each doing a tiny aspect of the perceived sound because they were tighter than most metal bands could dream of being.
You can't hide behind distortion, so you've got to be on the money.
Thanks for this, INXS never got to the levels they should have, but I've recently seen a lot of people discovering them and their excellent catalogue.
