GIANT Alaskan Halibut... Catch Clean Cook

This is the first video from @brookcristoutdoors and I trip up to Seward Alaska! We fished with Off the Dock Charters out of Seward Harbor. The first day we got on Giant halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. I separated the videos based on species, so there is still plenty of big fish and action left. We fished a mixture of big grub tail jigs and salmon carcasses for bait. Big halibut are opportunistic aggressive predators that will chow down on most baits presented to them. We filleted our fish at J dock, and then I made a delcious pan seared halibut, with pea puree, roasted asparagus and orange beurre blanc!

Worked as a Millwright at PFI Fisheries in Petersburg AK for 15 yrs. Fredrick Sound had World Class Fishing within 20 miles of town on any given day. Chinook's, Coho, Halibut, Shrimp and Crab. My Whaler was set up for 4 and we averaged 500 Lbs+ per outing at our fav Halibut Hole (which was actually a large mound on the glacier floor) nearly every Spring/Summer. I was also running a Salmon Roe Bait Company and many of my Buds were Guides & Pro Fishermen outta Wash & Ore. We'd fly them up and take em to the Halibut Spot, throw out some shrimp or crab pots along the way and wait for Ebb Tide. We always kept the under 40 pounders and gave away the 80Lb+ Halibut as they were much grainier and less tender than the "Chicken" (small) Halibut. Made the mistake of getting a Commercial Jigging Permit for Halibut one Spring and 4 of us hauled up 6500Lbs of Halibut on Rod & Reel in Two Days. I was so sick of Halibut I didn't fish for them again for Two years . . . besides, the Chinook Salmon fishing was amazing and taste pretty good freshly Smoked. Yum !

I had a spirtual awakening when you flipped those fish in the pan, and revealed that perfect seasoned crust.

I love flounder fishing. I can only imagine how thrilling halibut fishing would be. Like you said, it’s on the bucket list. One day.

2 years ago in June my friend that lives in Anchorage flew me out to Alaska for a week. He has a sailboat in Seward that he has had since 1975. We spent the night on his boat and the next morning we went halibut fishing on a boat called the Perservance. Went 3 hours out. The most amazing fishing trip I have ever been on. Everyone on the boat caught their 2 halibut. I had over 30 pounds of cleaned fish. We went all over the place when I was there. If I could afford to live there I would definitely be living there. I could afford to live in one of those dry cabins, the ones that have no running water and your bathroom is a outhouse. They are only $400.00 a month with all bills paid. The thing is they are in Fairbanks and it gets between 30 and 80 degrees below zero. They are only a few miles from University of Alaska Fairbanks. Just a few miles out of the city you are a good ways back in the woods. I love that idea but the cold there I couldn't take.

OMG....I can't believe so many Floridians that haven't had Halibut!! Best fish in the WORLD! (Can you tell it's my favorite?!). Victor: we've been on a couple of Alaskan cruises from SoCal, and the last one we took the seaplane trip to the Taku Lodge for a salmon dinner. Fresh caught that day and cooked on outdoor grills while you watch, and even though I'm not a big salmon fan, it was the best fish I'd ever eaten, EXCEPT for any of my halibut eats.

BTW...I will echo what many have said and I've said on your other videos: I'm "hooked" on them. I watch A LOT of YT videos of all persuasions, and the absolute clarity of the video, your personality and uncanny ability to explain everything fishing, and the fantastic content from catch to eat is BAR NONE. Keep up the great work!!!

Victor, I thoroughly enjoy your fishing programs! Great format. I love the way you combine your fishing experiences with the cooking of your catch. As both a lifelong fisherman and hip pocket chef, I can truly say; your videos completely resonate and hit the mark. Keep up the good work!

Wow!!
Looks like a great nice meal presentation and with beautiful consistency..

..from Texas, now..
Lived & cooked in New England for most of our lives..
I served Halibut in a quant captain's home, now, a fine gourmet restaurant, conference, wedding destination venue.. of which I'm proud to be a part of the best local establishment on CapeCod's village of 'Orleans'..
The Historic Captain Linnell House from 1840, a Captain s landlover resistance with a "widow walk" at the time..
Wedding venue and fine dining for 3 decades till the "Covid-19" era of today..
Now bought from 'Bill & Shelley Conway to locals who visited the historic place though out their families, from Marshfield, Massachusetts..
Happy to see these guys landed in Alaska..

We are headed with our RV to Fairbanks on invitation from a clergy who friended in Texas..

Some of the best sportfishing there is. Such a thrill. The story about the commercial fisherman in Alaska catching a 400 pounder while out solo, not killing it before he got it in the boat, and then it thrashing so hard that it killed him will stick in my mind until I catch one myself.

I lived in Alaska for 11 years. Halibut and King salmon are the best eating. Used to have 300-400 pounds of fish in the freezer every fall. And about 600pounds of moose. Brings back good memories.

I just moved from Cape Coral to Anchorage less than two months ago. Anchorage sucks but everywhere else I've been is great. It's the most scenic place I've ever lived. The drive up through Canada on the Al-Can going through British Columbia was the most beautiful place I've seen on Earth, thus far. Caught my limit of sockeye (red) salmon the second week here. Salmon in the freezer makes me a happy man. Great video!

You put together an absolutely beautiful intro. Your skills (videography, cooking and fishing) just keep on improving. Way to step up the game.

Halibut cheeks are probably my most favorite thing you can pull out of the sea. Just an amazing piece of the fish.
