OR if you really cant do it because of your grip then you can just use a normal barbell like you would do on a normal squat

Just use two dumbells if your grip is that weak. Better to work the balance and core with bulgarians as well as the legs.

Your back hurts because your core isn’t braces properly and your flexing the spine. Keep it neutral, brace the core hard.

Im lucky my gum has plates with handles, use those over dumbbells. So much easier for me to hold. They dont have a smith machine, so ill have to wait until i go to the other gym my partner goes to.
