I think yall have it backwards. Go back and watch your faces, hugs, laughter, and pure joy of love of family showing on those faces. YOUR NEW home should be your home. Mountain home should be your getaway home.
Besides time will fly, and Leo will be starting school. He needs playmates and family close by. It's called evolving and change is good for what's best the family.

That’s not an old house at all - with so many families unable to afford even a small house - many would be grateful to have such a beautiful home to raise their family in

Don't change the kitchen. It is gorgeous! The fads go around and come around. This kitchen is not outdated. It is timeless.

The oak woodwork in the new home is beautiful and has class. Don't destroy it!

Awe. Grandma is absolutely the sweetest. I almost cried just watching Trent hug her so tight. I miss mine.

I personally think, in the long run, the new house will be so much better for the mental, physical, and financial health of your whole family. I know you love your mountain house, but it belongs to a different era of your life. Friends and family, having your own community is SO important. Especially these days. And having a safe space to foster those relationships is the most important thing in this life. You have an amazing opportunity to grow, to stretch, and feel how to make this new house your own as you live in it. I hope you seize that opportunity. I'm sure all of us will keep watching and be happy to go along on the ride.

The oak wood is beautiful! In 20 years, the next generations will wonder why people painted or ripped out all of the oak. Thank goodness Allie will have a safe place close to family.

Made me miss what was with my family. My dad passed today. He was 99. Keep making memories to forever hold onto.

Joel is the man, so thoughtful bringing flowers to his matriarchal line!

Best idea ever to live in a house for at least a year before you renovate because you’ll know exactly what you need to change and have no regrets because you rushed in.

My humble opinion: If the new house is basically fit to move in, the cosmetic stuff can wait until after you finish the house, and possibly the casita and garage projects at the mountain home. That way, for the new house, focus is on making it comfy and functional to live in for the present and postpartum months ahead. And then, after you go back to the finished home on the mountain, you can make renovation messes at the new house.
Also, the oak in the new house is beautiful. It could use a new color of wood stain, but the warm golden oak is not hideous and it can keep while you finish up existing projects and just enjoy family life and more visits with friends.

To preface: I am a tree hugger - and all my life have been a proponent of enjoying natural woods, so all my comments will be along that vein. In your "new house" - you have one of the most beautiful kitchens I have ever seen. Wood and natural wood grains are so special - I pray that you will hold on to them. The built-in bookcases - the natural woods everywhere - you truly have a treasure there. Too many people rip them out or paint them over - and later wonder whatever possessed them to destroy such beauty. I know my opinion is of no matter - but I truly thank you for letting us see it as it is now. All the best to you (no matter what you decide - it'll be right for you).

Love that Allie will have a safe space closer to family and friends for support. It so valuable.

It looks more than good enough to live in. I like the house the way it is.

I think it makes a lot of sense. Having a new born and toddler in a construction zone in the middle of the mountains is not ideal. Also gives you more time with family.

My 2 cents? I'm really relieved you bought a house. This almost 70 year old grandma was worried about how you were going to make living in a construction zone with a newborn work for you. Super, super smart decision on your part, and it looks like a lovely house! So relieved.

Love it. I think you should make this your primary residence and keep the old house as a airbnb.

Going to be honest I think this house is the best thing for you, being near family when you’re having a baby and when your children are young is so important and that house has such a homely feel. 😊

Calling it now, this will become the main residence, and the house on the mountain will become a vacation cabin
