Hey there! Momma Maple could have gotten kennel cough from the places you had to stay at when evacuated. Or maybe the neighbor dogs? It takes up to 10 days for the virus to get ya. It’s scary when puppies get it as it can go into pneumonia quicker than a healthy adult dog. Also, if the puppies are coughing and you still want to introduce kibble, blend it smooth with warm water and a splash of goat milk until they quit coughing to avoid choking. I hope you can either change or decision if you feel it’s wrong for you or make something good out of it! You’ve got this 🎉

You can use a humidifying for their cough. Moisture in the air helps a lot.

Ask Wag More about Doxycycline! It’s what we use to treat upper respiratory infections and kennel cough for our dogs. I work in vet med at my local shelter and we see kennel cough often.

Yes, I've regretted decisions, and I'll do it again. What seems right one hour feels overwhelming the next. And it takes a while to see the whole picture. 😧We're humans and try to do our best and that's not easy. Take care. I hope you'll get some rest. It's hard when your darling fur babies are sick ❤

the puppies are definitely going to get it, since mom has it
I worked at an animal shelter for 2 years and its super contagious, but fortunately its not usually a big deal
just make sure to get some vitamins/immunity boosters into them (vet recommended, I cannot remember which ones, its been years) and they usually fight it off!
In some cases it can turn into pneumonia but just keep a close eye on them, you're doing great!

They also could have picked it up from when you evacuated, or if someone interacted with them at any point and they had the germs. Or if anyone has been boarded recently.
Its airborne but also transferred when they sneeze on you and you spread it through your clothes

Go to the vet because they have kennel cough meds. And Amazon has natural kennel cough meds also

I don’t know about there being no medicine for the kennel cough because my dog Asher Alexander was about 4 months old. The lady we got him from gave us medicine for kennel cough. Also we used a humidifier and within a couple of days he was just fine back to normal being his crazy self. If I were you Joey I would look into it because they won’t tell you it. I wish I can tell you the medicine was but it was four years ago. I hope this can help. But definitely get humidifiers for maple and the puppies and then one for the other dogs so they can not catch it just for safety.

They could prescribe doxycycline or something for her cough if you were interested in going to the vet 😊 hope they feel better

I know you probably won’t see this until they are better but make sure you are disinfecting any shared spaces that they might share and your hands and clothes because it can also lead to cross contamination

I hope that somehow they all don't get it. Thank you for taking such good care of them, Joey. You've been the best foster dad to all of the precious pups that have been lucky enough to end up in your care. And please keep giving Maple lots of love. She just melts when you do.
