I’m from the north of the Netherlands. My grandmother used to tell me how the poorer people in her village were still living in sod huts. That was in the 20s as well.

Think about it.

People here were still living in clay huts while they were reaching for the skies on steel and concrete on Manhattan. From farmer Jacob’s old horse-drawn cart to thousands upon thousands of roaring automobiles on 5th Avenue. From one family owning a record player, to dozens of stores on one small island.

Crazy…
