I don’t have the same reason for what happened nor do I care to say why but I will share why I told myself I wouldn’t do it so long as my parents live. I came home from school one day to find my mother sitting on my bed with tears streaming down her face as she held the note I had written in her hands and she looked at me in a way that still makes me cry today. Pain, sadness, anger, but most of all she looked terrified. I remember sitting down and talking to her. That it was because I had become too overwhelmed with everything going on and that I hadn’t planned anything but knew that anything could break me. She took it from me that day and I haven’t seen it since. From that day on I promised myself I would never do something so dumb as to take away my mother’s oldest son. I knew I could never hurt her like that.

my friend committed last year, and her first anniversary was recent. she was an ordinary person, just burdened with a bad mother and absent father. Shoya, the character from this anime, obviously has a different story, but watching this scene again, I feel like his mother.
