Misdiagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder

Thank you for this. I was misdiagnosed in 2012 and was put through a slew of medications. I had never been spoken to about bpd but now I'm learning about it. It makes more sense to me as I never had manic episodes or self harming episodes. I do get cross and have thoughts of yelling and throwing things that has taken me a long time to control.

I was misdiagnosed with borderline personality disorder by a quack after one conversation. Turns out it was trauma from a psychologically abusive relationship with a narcissist.

"We are not diagnosing you with BPD - you just have some traits"

Followed by being told they were diagnosing by symptoms and not past trauma and issues.

I completely think this is my case. I have a psychology degree so when I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (C-PTSD as well) I felt that some of it matched me, & some of it didn’t. But I was/am struggling so much in my life that I KNEW something significant (beyond depression certainly) was going on with me. I long thought that I may have borderline personality disorder, but due to having a background in psych education was always told that people who have BPD are relative nut-jobs (ala Fatal Attraction), so I assumed the criteria didn’t fit me. I’m coming to realize that I very likely am Borderline & truly need help.

Not surprised ….. having read information on the process in which the DSM was constructed ❕
So called systems have a lot to learn …… thankfully the time has come when people are now able to research themselves.

People are misdiagnosed all the like its planned. Therapy is just someone elses
