POINT OF INTEREST: Simpson was started in 1934 and made analog meter movements. The 260 was one of the most popular portable complete multimeters that used their movements. They still make analog and digital meters.

My 260 will zero on Rx1 and Rx10, 000, but is open on Rx100. What size resistor do I need to replace the R100?

Fun fact: Simpson 206 meters that use a 9v battery (Series 6 and newer) include a spare terminal for the D-cell battery. It's used as a tension clip to hold the 9v battery in place. It's easily extracted with a pair of needle nose pliers and can be soldered in place of the damaged terminal. If the 9v battery rattling around a bit bothers you, finding something to wedge into place to hold the 9v battery securely should be much simpler than rigging a contact for the D-cell.

Grin, sort of fun to watch someone learn to use and industry standard, no offense intended. "Newer Old VOMs used the reversed banana for "safety" to attempt to reduce users accidents. Older VOMs used the conventional banana plugs and sockets, even older VOMs used the .080" diameter pin connections. In this video I noticed that you should have used the AC position with the POS and common to check for the AC. Stay safe because you were using the meter with live power that was present on the back of the exposed circuit, that could be fatal! Simpson and Probe Master provide good test leads for your multimeter VOM, don't waste your personal safety, time and money the the so called "adapters" they are terrible. Thanks for making a video of salvaging the 260.
Oh, you can still get the damaged battery clips from several source including Simpson and IMS in CA.

Thank you for sharing this content. I just picked up a Simpson 260 Series 5P. What Series is this one that you worked on?

PLEASE! I'm begging ya! Learn something about your meter. Watch the series by W2AEW and get a set of proper probes. You most likely have a 260 series 7 and Probemaster sells a great set of probes for this meter for about $30 shipped. When you get the probes, you can check the voltage measurement accuracy by using your DMM's resistance measurement. The resistance on your DMM should read 20, 000 ohms times the voltage setting on the Simpson. For example, on the 2.5 DC volt setting, it should read 50, 000 ohms.
