Glad to hear this! I always feel guilty when I run slow miles, but it feels so much better on my joints, ankle etc. at slower paces 8- 8:45 minute miles. I'm just a hobby runner at 33 years old and bigger at 215 lbs, so those hard runs are hard on my knees and ankles. Really glad to hear this info and makes me feel better

I read a study that showed that the Volume of training was the best indicator of Performance (so easy Runs being very important to get this ) with a 75% corrolation
Edit: I should add that i am pretty sure this is for 5k runners and upward so its not as important for a middle distance runner

AskNick question: how can I develop a great kick at the end of a race (like you) Is there a way in training that can help develop finishing fast or is it just mental toughness?? Love your vids nick 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I'm a freshman at a junior college in Northern California and just realized that every time I've run the 800m the past 4 years I've PR'd... something like 2:30, 2:23, 2:22, 2:15, 2:14, 2:12, 2:10, 2:07, 2:05 Hoping to break 2 by the end of this season. My point: Consistency in training is everything

How do I get into the race mode mentality? Before every race, I feel lethargic and am never full of nerves / adrenaline. Were you always naturally psyched up, or did you have methods to get your body amped up?

AskNick question: how can you develop your mental toughness to get to that very next level that you believe you could get to?

I always thought easy days were healing days from the hard days. Even a young person with plenty of natural growth hormone can put too much stress on their body. But if you wanna get good at middle to long distances, get on the track, do interval work, and get in the habit of running fast. See Peter Coe's book.

Nick, I am a 16 year old track athlete, and I was wondering how do I get in that all out mindset for practice, the same one to dig deep and push past what you think is possible for yourself. As In meets I can perform that and kick even when my body feels dead, but I can't get close to that in competition.

Ask Nick: I've been injured for the past 8 months after partialy tearing my achilles tendon. I'm getting ready to run within the next couple months, how should I go about getting back into running since its been so long. I made a training plan but my mileage increases so slowly that by the 2nd month I'm only doing 14 miles a week, I don't want to take that long to get back into things.

Does this 6 day training plan sound good?
Monday:5 miles easy
Tuesday:Long Interval
Wednesday:Plyometrics
Thursday:Tempo run
Friday:AB workout or intervals
Saturday:6 miles easy, lifting

Hi Nick do you recommend both breathing or nosing breathing for the easy miles?

Well since you can’t do hard workouts every day, how about workout 2 times a week. And then not run the other 5 days?
