Retired astronomy professor, this amazingly simple educational video truly has profound implications Beyond that of just sound. It applies to a myriad of other physics principles. Such as light and gravity!!

Sounds, frequency, vibration! Keys to the inner working of the universe.

I remember something from this crazy neighbor I had in San Francisco (this would be early to mid 1970s). He did experiments with active noise cancelation, basically making a bulldozer nearly silent. And other experiments.

This one experiment he used to tones, from two different sources. IIRC, he was saying when the two tones echo off the wall, you get a third tone. What was interesting to me was that third tone. It was the difference of the two tones.
EXAMPLE: 1Khz tone and 3Khz tone both reflected off a wall, gives you a 2Khz tone. If he was correct, you could reflect two tones that were out of hearing range, and get back a reflection that was IN HEARING range. Making sounds as if the sound were originating from where the echo was.

Sound and vibration is something that amazes me. I can see it as a language but also something very powerful

They need to have that fire thing at concerts that would be lit

Nothing more amazing than be able to "see" the sound, good job.

WOW, this just made me realise that I hardly know anything about life and it mysteries, and also that I NEVER WILL.

I feel childlike, lost in wonder and liberated.

Thanks for this insight.

It’s not until I experienced mushrooms, that I really came to understand the power of sound and frequency. And math- everything has a mathematical component to it.

By far the best video on resonance I've seen. The water and especially the bass kicking up the flames..This video was fire!

7:30 I wonder if you could create a motor of some kind with this effect. If you would have a resonating material that doesnt get destroyed like glass and you`d put an object into it, it would jump around in that chamber and could potentially, power some kind of mechanism that generates a force that could be used to harvest this energy. It would be a resonance motor.
Those flames do look really cool.

You know...I was born deaf and I didn't get my hearing until about 2 1/2 years old....Me experiencing sound for the first time as a toddler must have been somewhat comparable to the visual specter and child like wonder this video evokes. Just WHOA.... Is this stuff that we call sound...really capable of all of this? Do our senses lie to us? This is sorta like stumbling onto a 6th sense...a different fundamental understanding of universal phenomena that were always there around us....but we are just now tuning into it...

Whoa! Easily among my fav sci vids. Just about explains the fundamentals of C/creation and a host of other mysteries. Thanks a gazillion!

Sound vibration and frequency is how it all happens my friend. Great stuff. Stay blessed and balanced my brothers and sisters

Things like this get me going through life. Waves are fascinating.

Sound is energy. By business in the USA for many years was "noise control" primarily in commercial and industrial applications. Sound and acoustics is an amazing science.

This video is really awesome such simple ways to illustrate the properties of soundwaves. However, I really hope physics teachers don't just show this video. Yes, kids will think it's cool but imagine how much more engaged they'll be if you take these experiments to the next level. e.g. What happens with smaller coke bottles? different sized bottles? What about the Ruben's tube - what happens if you vary the tension on the balloon? How do you make the most lights go out instead of one or two? Why? This is a great resource for science educators.

more please! I believe in the science of sound and look forward to applying it to my spoken word creations! Well done!

Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, founded in 1446 has decorations that are the same type patterns as the salt on the vibration generator. It has been decoded, and is a composition of music. The chapel was built by the St. Clair family members of the family were Knights Templar.
