It is widely known that forests are one of the best solutions to climate change, due to the massive amount of carbon trees can store. We cannot deal with the climate crisis if we continue logging mature and old-growth forests. These forests are our country’s largest carbon sinks, and we must invest in them if we are to preserve a livable climate. In honor of Climate Week NYC 2021, this panel will examine why it is essential that antiquated federal forest policy be updated to conserve mature and old growth forests in the United States and explore the benefits of forest protections for Indigenous communities, biodiversity, and the climate.

Speakers:

Wanda “Kashudoha” Loescher Culp, Tlingit artist, activist, advocate
Dr. Beverly Law , Emeritus Professor, College of Forestry, Oregon State University
