When I was a kid, I inadvertently made a bunch of perfect bound books by tearing a standard size paper in half and lining up all the torn edges into a text block. Glue goes on the lined up "fuzzy" edges. It must have been a decent way to add texture, because over 10 years later the bindings are still intact. (Disclaimer: The books have been in storage most of the time, but I have taken them out and flipped through them occasionally over the years.)

In answer to comment request:
I push the pages to the side when gluing. I then push them the other way and glue some more. This means glueing with more paper extending from the press then you show and then repositioning the glued sheets closer down to stop the spreading of the glued ends. This fanning gets glue down between the pages. I use my finger and not a brush.

My second glue coat is as you show.

My third glue coat is also as per yours except I get a chux wipe (might be an Australian term so maybe internet search for international equivalents) and cover the glued spine with it. It is to add binding strength.

That aside, I like the saw cuts and inserted string. I will try that next time.

Great idea! Have you tried fanning to improve the perfect binding? Basically you push the binding edge from one side so that it fans out. You apply glue, and then push from the other side so that the edge fans in the opposite way and apply glue again. I love you videos- thank you

Jen;  I have also read (and watched vids) about adding a thin strip of mull to the spine of the book with glue.  It is another version of the 'string' addition.

You can add mesh to the glue as well such as lycra to make it really really strong.

ive tried doing 100 page notebooks with perfect binding and honestly they dont hold up, they end up falling appart no matter hoy many layers i use, so now i saw all of my notebooks and wrap strings in the holes

if you just use one thin coat of glue, could you make it into like a tear off notepad?

Hi Sealemon! Dig your videos. I was just wondering if you can or if you've tried using a perfect binding with a hardcover case? Seems like if it was sturdy enough it might save time as opposed to s coptic textblock. I'd love to know your thoughts.

Hello Sea, it's your moroccan fan again. 
I finally could make my very first moleskine-like notebook. It wasn't perfect, it didn't look like yours, evidently, you got so much talent and experience than me, i'm learning. I couldn't round the corners, because I couldn't buy online (this option is not available in my country, I can only buy online inside morocco) so i keep looking. My sewing techniques were, let's say, acceptable. I tried cutting the edge with the utility blade, they ended very ugly even with the abrasive. I'm no good at it that's why I won't round my corners manually. I hard covered it with a Skai faux leather, it was fine at the end, i was happy. i started getting ideas, that's the best thing. I think you're very worth following, your tutorials made me do a lot of manual work and stay all day all night experimenting.

Do books like this lay flat? I've been wanting to switch to a traveler's style notebook cover but haven't been able to find any inserts that will lay flat when opened. I'm to the point where I might just make my own.

Can u use hot glue to perfect bind? And will using super glue gel it to be stronger?
