N.Y.C. Streets Under Quarantine | The New Yorker

Scenes from a day of weirdness in quarantine in New York City as New Yorkers socially distance to avoid spreading the coronavirus. Times Square, Grand Central Station, subways, and streets appear eerily empty while the residents of the five boroughs have taken shelter at home to curb the outbreak of COVID-19.

This footage deserves to be saved and preserved for the future as historical reference.

That saxophone guy is there every day ... even during a global pandemic.

The Gent playing the Sax played Happy Birthday to my wife;s 50th in Jan 2019. Hope he manages this terrible time for a street artist. God Bless Him

Hearing the sirens day and night during the first few weeks of the pandemic was scary. Seeing the trailers at hospitals was so horrifying. NYC was so quiet, eerily quiet. Going out to do errands like grocery shopping and doing laundry took planning days in advance. We lost so many people.

You know it's bad when a place like NYC is near dead quiet.

New York City without people doesn’t feels like New York City.

Who knew we would live in a world like this. It feels like we are living in a movie apocalypse, but it's real.

As a foreigner this looks weird to me.
For those that LIVE there, this must be surreal in the extreme.

I really hope that humanity takes this time off and contemplates about the way we have been living the past few decades. One could think that we are “oh so modern and developed” but it’s only technology that is developed, what about the way of our hearts? and how we think and NOT appreciate everything we have, or don’t have. I wish humanity comes out of quarantine refreshed and with new look on life and this planet. Stay safe

That sax player is a total badass. Entertaining people even though he knows he isn't going to get any tips.

Looking back on this is so surreal. I remember the usually very busy Florida streets being almost empty. It was very easy to ride my bike without any traffic. 2020, the year that never was indeed 😮

It's always humbling to see New Yorkers, even in their absence, collectively pitching in and making sacrifices so readily in times of crisis.

11 million good citizens, man.

That video shot of the the black man playing the saxophone 🎷 was a perfect apocalyptic video, and this video in general is historical.
