Ep 69 Cruising Destinations III - Porto Spilia, Greece

Sailing in Greece is so much fun. The bareboat and charter operations take up a lot of room, but we like having people around and the mood is universally festive. For this portion, in the middle of a week of dead wind we actually find an afternoon of 20 knot winds for a great fun sail.

Great video, thanks. I’ve been cruising the Ionian annually since 1980 (I was 28 then!). Porto Spilia is
my favourite. I’ve known Babis and Panos since they were boys and their parents ran the taverna. Their mother would run to shore and clap to attract incoming boats. In 1980 it was the only taverna and indeed the only moorings were for three yachts bow-to on the tiny triangular dock the remnant of which is between the new pontoons. Going back this June ‘a la recherche du temps perdu’. Best wishes. Conor. Dublin, Ireland.

Another great video, thank you for sharing with us Kevin & Wendy! Still taking notes of all the marina's and beautiful anchor spots you have visited. You mentioned that it is very busy with charter boats/flotilla's and that it limits the possibilities for overnight stays in Marinas. Do you happen to know around which period the busy season starts? And does Talismans' draught (2, 4 m) limit the choice for marina's? Thank you again

Yes, Athina Onassis Roussel sold the island "Skorpios" in April 2013 to Ekaterina Rybolovleva, the daughter of Russian billionaire businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev. The nearby islet of "Sparti" was also included in the sale! Ekaterina’s plans for the island are remarkable.

A new complex of luxurious villas with a total capacity of 48 beds, courts of golf, basketball and tennis, as well as restaurants, spas and a brand-new marina are only some of the family’s plans for the island, at an investment that will probably cost more than €120 million.
