BMW E46 318i 1.9 m43 problem with motor/engine.

BMW 318i e46 m43 motor can't drive. The mechanic says i need to change the whole engine. Is it really necessary? And there is a weird sound from beneath the engine when it comes over 3-4000 rpm (you can hear it around 1 min in the video). The car goes out at the end when i tried to drive. It goes out allmost immediately when i slip the clutch
What could be wrong? should i just change the engine?

At over 359000 klm the engine has certainly worked a lot. An overhaul could be in order.

Problem was not solved. Then engine was swapped since it might have been several issues with the engine. It was my fault that didn't change the oil for a very long time.

Dear Rajzan. The engine was swapped. So we never fixed the engine ;)

the engine had only 240000 on the clock. it had allready been swapped once

I have same problem now, i hear over 3-4k rpm hard knocking noise. Looks like i also need to replace the engine how it looks.

we need to start to make a diagnosis, I think the camshaft sensor and the sensor rhodometra air

M43 engines go bad because of bad service intervals set by bmw. These engines last much longer when you use semisynthetic 10w40 from a good brand and change the oil every 10k-15k km (6200-9300 miles) instead of 25k km (15500 miles).
