Gamers complain with good reason about how now every game is a shitty "game as a service" open world, or the same 4 or 5 franchises.
Well, this one was something new (even if it took elements from other games), single player and very contained. Yet for some reason they didn't like it.

With that said, I think part of the problem is also that with suits and financial parasites in charge of companies they expect an insane amount of profits and if they don't get it they consider it a failure.
