I learned to read that way. My wife learned to read that way. My children learned to read that way. We all know how to read. How many times have they found "better" ways to "educate" and yet the US is falling further and further behind. I recently walked through a new school designed for "better learning". The lighting looked like modern art. The walls were covered with murals mostly depicting street style art. The place was simply distracting. It also cost millions more than a simple school building. I live in North Carolina, near Raleigh. We need to go back to schools and methods that worked.

I agree! Kids in elementary, middle and highschool nowadays can't even spell! We have to change this!!

It is a shame that we as a nation are going backwards and not forwards in our education system.

The News and Observer vehemently disagrees with this because it is based on sound sound logic promoted by conservatives.

Keep lowering standards and expectations and you end up here.

So standardized testing, cutting Pre K, pushing kids before they are developmentally ready, cutting funding, putting unequipped folks in place and lack of adequate teacher pay has nothing to do with it?

Theory is not how to decide how to teach our kids. I have a theory, this was done by fools. My theory is fire the fool and pay the fact. If it works why screw it up.
