The RTX 3080 Mobile is begging for more power. 85-100W?! RTX 3080 should NOT be given anything less than 150W! Desktop RTX 3080 gobbles up 380W+ to flex it's muscles! Giving it just 100W or lower is basically crippling it!

No MUX+low TGP...if Acer wants to survive from competition, they better do a complete update on Helios 300. And Nitro 5 too.

Edit: They made the GPU heatpipe bigger in Helios 300 and Nitro 5 this year, but that's it. Performance still behind competition.

I totally don't understand those laptops with high refresh rates screen (like 240Hz+) but crippled by a MUX-less configuration. The best you can get is 150-160FPS no matter what. What a waste.

It should be illegal to be selling at such a price when their other lower priced models are offering similar performance : / . This seems like the end of Helios 300 legacy.


Maybe after flashing the new BIOS and vBIOS updates that Acer dropped might improve the performance.

Hi! I just found you and wanna ask you something. There's a specific model of Acer Helios 300 which is basically 10750H-32GB-RTX3080 and I'm planning to use it on 4K monitor. Would you recommend me to get it? I believe bottleneck will be lesser when it comes to the higher resolutions... Also there's another model which is 11800H-32GB-RTX3080 for $600 more... Which one would you get? Do you think it would worth to pay that more? I'm curious about your opinion as I'll need to get it immediately lol!

If you hook it up using display port will it disable optimus? This sucks, I was almost close to buying this laptop as I found for an insane deal. Just wanted something until desktop GPU go back to sanity. Only option are laptops

I still have the 2020 version with 10750H and RTX 2060, imo the chassis was on it’s last feet in the 2020 model since the laptop doesn’t keep itself cool enough even with max fans with stock paste unless I disable CPU turbo, acer shouldn’t have refreshed the laptop with RTX 3000 GPU and instead should have opted for a complete redesign and cooling overhaul to keep up with it’s competitors

Acer should have given Helios 300 the same design treatment as triton 300 and 500 got with their SE variants

I got a nitro 5 $999 with a 5800H and 3060 95W, and surprisingly AMD makes it run very cool, the cpu rarely passed 80C, GPU rarely pased 70 and it always runs at 25-35W at 4.1ghz, and the gpu always runs at 95W on auto fans. A ryzen helios would absolutely be killer

i have the same pc, but gpu don't work at 80/90% like you but at 50/60% at the same setting, can you explain me how to improve fps?

Is this the 2021 version? Feels like it could've used more juice, what a wasted opportunity for Acer. I'm still happy with my Helios 300 from 2019 though (I brought it based on your review!). Keep the good work!

Superb in-depth review as always. Looks like Acer's budget Nitro 5 series getting better than Helios series and they're available with Ryzen 5000H series. Nitro 5 AN515 with 15.6 1080p 144hz panel, 5600H, 16gb ram, 1tb SSD and etc 3060 is just $1149 in Acer store. Initially it was 85W+10W TGP Setting but lot of Indian reviewers confirmed that Acer has released a new Bios which has boosted the TGP to 95W+5W for RTX 3060, higher than the 3070 and 3080. Also, AN517 17" is available at $1400 with same config but 5800H.

I've bought this laptop recently but it doesn't really seem to work properly - in my opinion paying more than 2000$ is too much for getting 80 - 120 fps in simple game as CS:GO. It would be really kind if you could help me with some advice. (i didn't change any settings in Nvidia control panel or things like that). Just to make sure that i didn't make any kind of mistake here are my laptop specs - processor Intel Core i7-10870H; graphics card GeForce RTX 3080.
