Hehe, yeah I know this one. Problem is after your impressionable girlfriend looks at you in awe, a minute or two goes by and she starts to realize I can't REALLY play anything else than this and a few kiddie songs, fragments of songs... then finally, I have to admit "I'm really a bass player."

Why did I pick a Martin D-28:

In 1974, I was at a small party where there were musicians playing in a circle. This one fellow had a D-28, and I thought it sang so sweetly (I loved the volume, tone, harmonics, and resonance so much, I thought it was the best guitar I'd ever heard - I was on my first guitar, a 1972 Alarez Yari...not bad).

I asked him what was that guitar he was playing. I'd heard of it, and knew many professionals I admired had one (John Prine, Steve Stills, Neil Young, etc.).

He could tell I was drooling and asked me if I wanted to play it (DUH?!).

I wasn't very good (still not in 2023), but I strummed my favorite 3 chords (G, C, D). Then I strummed my second favorite 3 chords (E, A, B), and these were probably the only others I knew at the time.

I still clearly remember what I would later learn was an Out of Body Experience (OBE); My eyes rolled up into my head as it went back, and my breathing got deep and slow. I felt the bones in my arms vibrate and that feeling slowly traveled up and branched out through my shoulders, up my neck and into my ears.

As my eyes opened slowly, but not completely, with droopy eye lids, I felt stoned, and took a deep, slow breath then exhaled deeply: I was in Love.

It became my desire to someday own a Martin D-28. This was something not realized until my second wife and our 20th wedding anniversary, when she gave me my most valued possession: a 2020 Martin D-28.

The answer to your question: It was my first OBE.

Life is Good!

Now...if i can just learn to play it.

Nicely played. I’ve been playing for about 25 years on & off . Haven’t played at a gig for about 10 - 15 years. You have got me inspired again. And bagged yourself a new subscriber 👍

Blueridge BR-180 2007 Natural just bought this. I’ve played for 50 years, played them all, had most of them. This is the prettiest, and nicest sounding acoustic I’ve ever played .

Nice. I can learn this. I'm 60, and picked up my first guitar 4 years ago. This is what I was looking for. Thanks.

My working guitar is an ovation with flat wound strings on, do it all, take it anywhere. My at home messing about guitar is an ibanez parlour.

A marvellously simple lesson, delivering an impressive end result. This is the way to give people, particularly youngsters, a passion for guitar playing.

Great doable methodical tutorial wothout a ton of confusing music theory for we lesser mortals. Much appreciated and looking forward to more of the same. Cheers 👍

My early 90’s Martin m-36 is my favorite acoustic I have ever had. And so comfortable to play for hours with no shoulder strain
