Fiala had an abysmal first half followed by an unreal second half immediately followed by a playoff no-show. Literally a carbon copy of the previous season.

Fiala also signed an extension with the Kings. 7 years, $7.875M, no clauses in the first season, full NMC for seasons 2-4, modified NTC for seasons 5-7 (specifics of the modified NTC aren't revealed yet, and the deal is unconfirmed).

As a MN fan I was a bit disappointed butI remembered that they have Judd Brackett making the picks. Dude is a wiz at finding great prospects through out the draft

You spoke of how his D game was a question mark, which is odd considering he was named the big ten defensive player of the year.

Faber is great skating defender with an incredible stick and defensive awareness. He gives nothing.

If anything, hes more to be a Prime Anton Strallman esque player then a high octane puck moving offensive defenseman...

Wild already have a wealth of defensive prospects and players that can fill out depth. They need first and second line centers which I doubt they get with the 19th pick. I would have liked to see more. Could have thrown in Dumba as a sweetener to get a better return. I hope they still move him to free up more space and make some moves bc losing Fiala is a big loss to the Wild’s offense. Was really hoping for a more guaranteed return that would be ready to be a main part of the core when the Wild leave cap hell. As it stands they have Kaprizov and a bunch of middle tier players, hopefully they can get a steal in the next few drafts or else I don’t see them competing for a cup anytime soon.

I feel like this will end up being a big win for both sides. I think people are underestimating Fiala assuming that he not be able to match that production. He put up 60 some points in 50 some games when playing with Matt Boldy, and before that he mostly played with 3rd line caliber players. Putting him with Kempe and Kopitar I think he could surpass those numbers. From the Wild perspective, it would have been really hard to find a team to offer a prospect with top 6 F upside or top 4 D upside AND a 1st round pick. I also think Faber being from Minnesota could make him easier to retain long term so he could potentially be a very long term piece for the franchise.

Graviteh Kings are loaded with defensemen and Faber was 4th best D propect on the Kings. Kings traded for the rights for Fiala not a trade for the player. Please research before going online.

A very good trade for both teams. As a Wild fan we knew Fiala was a cap casualty but if he wasn't, I'll be honest I wouldn't want that contract. 7 years at 7.9m is a big gamble, but no doubt the potential is there.

Wild ideally wanted NJ's pick but once they won the lottery that went off the table.

Win for Wild (all things considered)
Win for Kings (as long as Fiala becomes more consistent)
Win for Fiala (huge contract, warm weather)

the Kings are going to roll out 3 lines that can score with Kopitar, Danault, and Byfield in the middle… they’ve done more with a lot less.

Fiala is potentially a 100 point scorer just entering his prime and the Wild got back a prospect and a draft pick. The Wild have missed on a lot of draft picks over the years and also have a tendency to overvalue prospects (Coyle, Granlund, Zucker, etc. Solid players but not stars.
