well i mean it depends, i’ve seen a bunch of clips of this show and the family seems to be pretty connected to the culture. also i’m pretty sure that the mom grew up in Taiwan so that’s why she holds the culture to such a high regard. but it depends on how connected you are to the culture and just your own personal beliefs and upbringing as well.

I’m Chinese, but I spent most of my life in America. My parents grew up in China and for them, and my family, superstitions are a big deal. Like for example when using chop sticks, the two can’t cross even by accident for a couple seconds bc it’s bad luck or an omen of death, I’m not really sure. You also have to have a red cloth in a pocket of your clothes if your a child visiting a grave, so your safe from spirits and stuff, and there’s a lot more. So yeah, certain families take these stuff really seriously while others less.

I have a pendant on a necklace which I can count on my hands how many times I’ve taken it off over the last 49 years. I got given the pendant as a baby and as I got older I wore it on a necklace. Well some years ago when we were back in Vietnam at my wifes' village. We were going to do up her brothers grave. When the family started to go up they all got sick and could not go
The upshot was they called in a Buddhist monk who said that her brother was not happy there were things growing in him
My wifes cousins came up and we dug him up. There was a tree root that had penetrated the coffin and was growing through his thigh bone and there was moss in his skull. When we cleaned his skeleton, all his family could come up
Before this incident I was skeptical Now No. In fact because of what my wife has always said our grave is nowhere near a tree
