New AirPods 3 vs AirPods Pro

Apple's long-awaited third-generation AirPods launched yesterday alongside new MacBook Pro models, and we picked up a pair to compare them to the AirPods Pro. Which ones are more comfortable for a longer period of time. Do the ear tips on the pros make them more comfortable or does it not really make a difference.

I did a careful listening comparison between the two. It is definitely worth pointing out that the sound between the two is significantly different. If you listen to music carefully and critically, The pro’s bass is much better. It is more full spectrum. I also noticed that the Pros have a more balanced presentation. The generation 3s are excellent for what they are, but they cannot compete with the punch and feel of the base in the pros. Like any decent in ear monitor, it requires a seal between the device and your ear canal. Similar to the way that sound performance in a high-quality speaker requires a carefully crafted enclosure with the correct porting if it is a based ported design, in ear monitors need the same physics going on to deliver the base within an existing track. Without this, the sound will be tin-y and less dynamic. The price of the pros is warranted in that it’s construction delivers the full spectrum better than the 3s. Also to be considered is you can add third-party tips, like from Comply, which enhance this isolation seal even better, making the sound better in the process.

The difference for me is do i want silicon tips in my ears or not? Well AirPods 3 are just right for me.

Bought 3s yesterday and I’m returning those for the pro as I could literally hear everything that’s going on outside.

I have both the pros and the 3s. I honestly prefer the 3s for longer use.

Just did an A-B comparison and the 3’s definitely sound better than the Pros. They are a little louder, have a clearer sound and have a little more bass. They were also more comfortable in my ears. The only reason to have the Pros is if you need noise cancellation.

I love my AirPods 3 compared to the pros. I always had a problem with the pros falling off especially with jaw movement. My 3’s fit just like the 2nd generation AirPods. They’re very light as well.

I went with the Third Gen vs. the Pros. 6 hours, the extra hour and a half more listening was a significant factor, but the main one was the lack of “in ear” silicone tips. For someone with my ears, they are uncomfortable after longer periods of time. I tend to have them in most of the day.

I use to have only one side on at a time, but since I still have the Second Gen, now I can rotate pairs instead. Initially, the new Gen3 felt as though they would fall out easily. But now my ears seem to have adapted to them. I also have these silicone ear horns/hooks that fit inside the contours of the ear, but not the ear canal like the Pros, which gives a more secure fit. They do sound more punchier than the previous Gen. Transparency mode should be a standard feature on AirPods. Actually, there should not be a difference in functionality at all, but rather only form factor. Not everyone’s ears are the same. I am just glad there are at least two real options, three if you include the Max or Beats Solos…

Amazon and Best Buy both have the AirPods Pro with MagSafe Charging Cse right now for $189, so I went with the Pros. ANC seems like a bargain for $10 more. As it turns out the silicone tips don’t bother my ears, so it's a win!

If you don’t mind the battery life definitely get the pros you can customize the fit and the 3s might not fit your ear so think about it

I hope Apple upgrades the Pro with the 3’s drivers soon. I like the Pro better, but the sound quality of the 3s are somewhat better.

I got them today and they feel and sounds very nice. I also have the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max “I like this new ones because sometimes I feel like underwater with the pro” like a can’t breathe because of the noise cancellation.

I prefer the tips (gigity) and noise cancellation on my pros. They are perfect to me. Got them fairly cheap from Costco back in May.

If you’re considering either of these I promise you the pros are the way to go the noise cancellation and transparency feature alone makes them the best AirPods of the og, pro, and 3. Comfort is subjective but you’re gonna wish you had the noise cancellation/transparency feature

FYI the Magsafe case doesn't seem to work if you have your AirPods inside of a third party protective case. Even if it's a relatively thin outer case.

Any suggestions for a good AirPods Pro skin? Dbrand doesn’t seem to make one for AirPods. They only have a case.
