If the tariffs cause a global recession as many economists predict then demand will drop and prices will drop. The profits in US shale oil will fall but cheaper energy is equivalent to a tax cut for Americans overall and is a boon.

I think the US should impose an import tax on Canadian oil especially if some of it is owned by Chima. We can raise it to whatever we want since it has no other place to go and no other way to get there even if it did. I think in the coming year or two with anarchy in Venezuela the Organization of American States will ask the US to step in and secure Venezuela by sending humanitarian aid, military force to defend it from scavengers like Russia and China, to make a transition to a new civilian government friendly to the United States and other members, and to revitalize the oil industry with capital investment and technical support in some sort of profit sharing arrangement.
