10 Behind The Scenes Stories From The Matrix

Before Resurrections, way back through the years and the decades, beyond Revolutions and Reloaded and Path of Neo, there was a mysterious 1999 sci-fi action movie. No-one really knew what to expect from it. Not one person predicted the impact it would have.

It was directed by the Wachowski siblings. Of course, now we know them as the visionary directors of Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending and all sorts of other movies. At the time, some people knew them for Bound. But nobody could have predicted how influential this chaotic combo of martial arts, philosophy, science fiction and apocalyptically rad action would be. The green code film, the blue pill picture, the red pill movie, however you want to think of it, there is a clear dividing line in popular culture before the spectacle of this movie and afterwards.

Bullet time, Rage Against The Machine, Simulacrum and Simulation, the lobby scene, robot squids, Agent Smith interrogation, dodge this - it’s all in there, and it leads all the way through to December 2021, and the fourth instalment.

But what went on behind the cameras? How did they make this iconic picture? Can you even imagine the movie without Computer-Generated Imagery? What hilarious and fascinating anecdotes can we gather?

In this video, Screenrant will be diving down the rabbit hole and looking at 10 of our favourite production revelations from the making of this influential artefact. Fasten your seatbelt Dorothy - because Kansas is going bye bye.

All of the excitement must come to see that the matrix resurrections would bring serious vibes of the first film, but more modern and even possibly better.

Hugo Weaving also broke a hip during training that required a hip replacement before shooting.

Between the announcement of Reloaded and its release, one high-profile blogger wrote some speculation on what characters would return. He remembered "the other potentials, " each potentially The One, including the boy who bent spoons. He headlined them as Spoon Boy and the Potentials, then immediately noted that could be a band name. ;-P

3:00 One thing I'm confused the most about is why haven't you mentioned Dark City and producers' demand to make Matrix less like it.

They really should have gone with the original idea for Switch. It would have made her a much more interesting character, and fit in well with the nature of the Matrix. Her name would have made more sense, too.

4-6 are my favourite, but the last one blew my mind
Actually if Carrie-Anne's injury had been worse and would prevent her from taking the role it would had been a disaster for her, as before the Matrix She had no proper career and if the film had been a commercial failure and had failed to gain the popularity it Has, it would have meant for the actress to work as waitress for a living.
I also know that Leo Turned down the role of Neo because he didn't Want to work on a film with visual effects straight after Titanic (1997).

I am pretty sure the green code was influenced by the nearly identical green code in Ghost in the shell anime

The sad tragedy of this is that in this next film there can be nothing visually done to capture the feeling of the first movie. That was lightning in a bottle. They're going to outsource all of this to an animation team and it's just going to look flat and boring.

Iconic, iconic, iconic - seems to be the go-to word for lazy writers.
